A 93-yr-old male with serious medical ailments gets the Both knee replaced by R2R Technique at Asian Bariatric Hospital by Dr. Dhiraj Marothi Jain.
Ahmedabad, 17th October 2019: The zeal to live a pain-free life is what made a 93-year-old patient from Ahmedabad undergo a very high-risk knee replacement surgery at Asian Bariatrics Hospital, Ahmedabad recently. But performing this surgery with the patient’s cardiac status was not in favor, Heart function was only 10-15%, very high possibilities of any cardiac event during surgery.
Since the team of anaesthesiologists headed by Dr. Yogesh Tank in association with Dr. Shivani Kakroo has been rendering their anesthesia services for bariatric patients with serious medical ailments like decreased cardiac and lung functions, they decided to extend their service for knee replacement in this patient under general anesthesia which otherwise is done under spinal anesthesia. But since the patient had a serious cardiac condition, they opted for general anesthesia as the stability is more when the patient is under general anesthesia.
With a very good backup support of ICU, cardiologist Dr. Mukesh Laddha and in-house physician Dr. Snehal Kothari, Dr. Dhiraj Marothi Jain, and his team successfully accomplished the procedure to give a new lease of life and hope to the patient.
Addressing the press, Dr. Dhiraj Marothi Jain, M.Ch (Ortho) and Chairman, RAJASTHAN ARTHROPLASTY CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE(RACE) said, “It was one of the high-risk cases. With only 15-20% heart functioning, severe bow legs, severe osteoarthritis, and other complications, the surgery was done under general anesthesia. The anesthetist did a tremendous job as with such aged patients, the risk factor doubles. Post-surgery, the patient is responding well and he has started walking as well”.
Dr. Marothi also mentioned that the patient had consulted multiple doctors in the city for his problem and sought relief from the pain but after consulting surgeons at Asian Bariatrics Hospital, Ahmedabad, the patient, and his family members gave their consent for the surgery.
